 Especially useful for blocking most snowballs, such as Snow Mudball. Can also reduce the damage from Ice Club or Stone Club, and shut down Essence of Esophagor. Plus, it's cheap enough that you can afford to have one lying around.

Alternatives: Shiny Shoal Shell Shield trades a bit of power for some air defense. Patched Magic Hat blocks light instead of water.

 One of the best beginning shield mainly because of the price and the amount and type of icons it blocks. Very reliable..

UPGRADES: Patched Magic Hat or Sophies Magic Hat would be great until you can afford something like the Faerie Tabard or Ghostkershield
