Return of Dr. Sloth Plot Challengers Guide
« Back to Articles Index

Update: EXTREME ULTRA CRITICAL ANNOUNCEMENT: YOU CANNOT FIGHT ANY RETURN OF SLOTH BATTLEDOME CHALLENGERS ANYMORE! THE PLOT IS COMPLETELY OVER. YOU CAN'T COMPLETE IT ANYMORE.

This is a great opportunity to earn plot points (the more you battle, the more points you get at the end) and therefore I've decided to write this guide for all those who are having some problems fighting these challengers.

There are 3 Garoo Elites, 1 Scout and 1 Militia - Junior Squadron, Mutant Grundo Scouts, Strike Commanders, Virtupets Militia and Specialist Riilan, in this order of difficulty.

Let's start with a quick FAQ on these challengers.

Q: How many times should I battle each challenger?

A: I would recommend 30 wins per challenger, at least. That should be able to rack up some decent points at the end. If you seem to have trouble with the strongest one, you can leave that and concentrate on the one(s) you are most comfortable with.

Q: Help! My pet doesn't show up in the 'Select Pet' dropdown box!

A: Make sure you're pet isn't hungry or at 0 HP. Then, make sure it is withdrawn from any battle by going to the Battledome status page. Now your pet should show up.

Q: Two new challengers are available to battle. Do stats and weapons that you recommended earlier against the Garoos apply or will I have to upgrade?

A: Luckily for some, TNT hasn't decided on stronger challengers for the second wave. So yes, apart from some abilities having new special priorities, all stats and weapons remain the same, so don't worry.

Recommended Minimum Stats

Although the challengers are somewhat easy, here is a table for the recommended minimum stats for each challenger:

Recommended Stats
Level Doesn't really matter, but around Level 10 for the weaker challengers, 20+ for the intermediate, and 30+ for the stronger ones. Mostly due to faerie abilities, which are now vital.
Hit Points 15 for the weaker, 50 for the intermediate, and 150 for the stronger.
Strength The more the better, obviously, but 35+ for weapon boosts.
Defense You need quite a lot of defense to endure the stronger challengers, so I would recommend a good 50+ overall.

Faerie Abilities

I highly recommend you having some good faerie abilities if you wish to challenger the Riilan, because he can easily chop off 100 HP in one turn without a good defense ability.

Burrow and Sink are the best defense abilities against the new challengers!

I highly recommend at least Burrow to practically nullify the Militia's attack. The top three I would get are:

Burrow
Earth, Level 10

Fiery Gaze
Fire, Level 6

Sink
Dark, Level 30
You can view all available faerie abilities and their effects/damages, here.

Weapons

Below is a list of items, you can view their specific item profiles by clicking on the item's image. The item profiles will give you the precise damage and stats for each item. Click on one, take a look.

Stone Club
Hitting them hard is what you want, so no better than a solid Stone Club to do the dirty work. This is a great 9 iconer which can easily take the life out of all these challengers, and highly recommended because of it's 100k price tag.

You can also get its colder brother, the Ice Club, which deals equivalent damage and has the same price.
Scroll of Freezing
You will need a freezer for your set for Riilan, Commander and Militia, so be sure to equip this 99k Scroll of Freezing. It's fragile, but it's 100% effective and never fails. A must so you don't lose.
Leaf Shield
This shield is great for beginner battlers, and is very effective because it blocks the type of damage that the Garoos deal, and is also quite good with the new ones, although it cannot stop fire iconage, which is the preferred element used by the recent challengers, but you can easily block that with the Burrow ability.
Greater Healing Scroll
The more expensive version of the Lesser Healing Scroll, but needed if you want to heal up to 50 HP quickly, once per battle.
Golden Compass
It can't tell you the way to win, but it sure can dazzle the challengers with 9 icons and still block 3 dark (although they don't especially favor dark). You can pick one up for around 150k. Great dual duty.
Scarab Ring
Commonly referred to as "the cheapest, most practical weapon", the Scarab Ring can do 6 icons as well as blocking 6, for a measly price of 3k! I highly recommend it to start out if you're a newbie.
Honey Potion
I'm not sure if some people can afford the inflated 1-1.2 million plot price, but it sure is a mighty useful bomb (it's once per battle), capable of annihilating the challengers, due to it's 16 icon ownage. Get it if you can, it's totally worth it.

Side Note: I strongly advise not to buy codestones or dubloons at this stage of the plot. With so many people battling and aspiring to train their pet, the price of these items will inflate a lot. Therefore, please try to restrain spending unnecessary money unless you truly need to.

On the other hand, however, if you're a restocker, then it's time to hunt deep down inside your SDB to find those long-forgotten codestones and dubloons and sell them for a good profit! There is a lot of demand, so now is the time to hit a lucky break and earn some good NPs.

It's like one of my friends says - Restocker's dream, Battledomer's nightmare.

That's it!

I hope you have now read my recommendations carefully to start battling these plot opponents, if you're a newbie to the Battledome and need help. I, too, hope this guide has helped you out.

For all the others, fight them as many times as you can and never give up! The second wave has just arrived and we may be in for even more...
